Well named for its distinctive, brilliantly bicoloured flowers, Salvia Hot Lips is a medium-sized, shrubby perennial, evergreen if not cut back by frost. I can reach up to 80cm. It has a bushy habit, and the small, ovate leaves are mid-green and aromatic. Flowers are carried in loose terminal racemes and are red in midsummer, bicolored red and white in July and August and sometimes completely white when the days shorten. The flowers are nectar-rich and very good for pollinators. Salvia Hot Lips holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
